Overview of MNEC’s Background

Mon National Education Department (MNED) was founded by the New Mon State Party (NMSP) in 1972 with the aim of providing high-quality education to Mon children and youth in their mother tongue. Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) was founded 1992 as a policy, oversight and advocacy body. MNEC extended to 25 committee members in from 1st May 2014 has evolved to the “Extended MNEC’, to focus more on fundraising for sustainable development. The EMNEC include former committee members, education expertise from government retired and stakeholders, business women and men, and religious leader like Mon Monks. 

MNEC provides education service to children in South Eastern Myanmar to over 12,000 vulnerable children every year. 

The MNEC system currently consists of 143 Mon National Schools, 43 ECCD and Mon National College (MNC) with over 800 teachers and education officers. MNEC has worked on different sectors such as MTB-MLE Curriculum Development, text book development, Capacity building for teachers and education officers, resources development and sustainable, Monitoring and evaluation, NFE and ECCD, and Research and Advocacy. 

To bring the MNEC education system strengthening and long term sustainable then formed fundraising committee central level, district level and township level to raise the fund by their own to support education running cost in their areas. Therefore, it would be vital to support them technical and relevance fundraising channels appropriately.
